| The
old cast iron pegs had swollen over the years, blowing the top
of the tiles, which had started slipping down. The roof consists
of approximately 50,000 peg tiles. Great care was taken in the
stripping, sorting and cleaning of all the peg tiles and
fittings. Almost all were re-used - even the broken halves were
re-used either for the top eves or for the tile under-cloak. The
approximate loss was 20%.
The works took three months to
complete, including all timberworks and castings that had to be
replaced.
